Renowned for our world class surf breaks, the Gold Coast’s Snapper Rocks plays host to the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro, kicking off the World Surf League Championship Tour year.
Running from 14 March – 19 March, professional surfers from around the world wait in anticipation to get onto our waves and start the year, hopefully leaving with a win. The beach is never short of spectators during the contest, keen for the chance to meet, greet and mingle with the pros.
Located approximately 30mins from Mermaid Beach, Snapper Rocks is a point beach break frequented by international level surfers on a daily basis and boasts home grown World Champions Stephanie Gilmore, Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson.
2017 untypically saw a wet week however, the surf did not disappoint. A stormy and messy final for both the men and woman resulted in an all Aussie podium; Stephanie Gilmore spectacularly took out the Roxy Pro in her first contest win since mid 2014 and Owen Wright made his mark on the Quiksilver Pro after missing the 2016 season due to a brain injury in the last contest of 2015.
Congratulations to Steph and Owen on their incredible wins and good luck for the rest of the year!
